Dear Abbey

Dear Abbey,

I have a sister Jean who feeds cats onions, drinks wine all day, and throws crumbs on her floor. I also have a brother Joey, he is the mayor of Seattle and has the luxory of driving to see his friends all over the place. While they seem content, I'm feeling a bit down and out lately. Not just with all the BS of getting out of a marriage, but also with work. The schedule is too demanding and not rewarding enough, the travel is really sucking and getting me down, and I just want to be home in NYC more.

Wondering what I should do to break from this rut,
Burnt

Dear Burnt,
Although you seem to be comparing your sibling's contentment against your own lack of contentment, let's look at this in another light. Jean may be revolting against her work life by dabbling in idyllic bliss, but she is only hurting herself by throwing crumbs on the floor and drinking wine. Happy people don't do that, and September will be all the more difficult for her. Joseph is spending all his paychecks on gas money, driving to see his friends, and he probably doesn't have enough money to feed himself properly or take people out on dates. In time he will be a lonely old man. He should invest in gas stock while he is young or he will be in the poorhouse.
As for you, ever think about not chasing the money in your career? Doing what you love and let the money follow? It sounds like most of your life has been "practice" for the real life you should be living. I say, embrace this transformation time and make the most of it. It will make you stronger adn smarter, if you don't let it get you down. And excellent choice for wanting to be in NYC. It's the place to be. Listen to Frank Sinatra.
Abby
